Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Materials & Construction
1. What materials does Rattanology use?
The primary materials are rattan and bamboo. Secondary materials — brass hardware, linen shades, lacquered steel — are introduced only where the natural material requires structural support or contrast. Nothing is added for effect.
2. Is the rattan sustainably sourced?
Yes. Rattan is one of the fastest-growing natural materials on earth and does not require deforestation to harvest. Rattanology sources from established suppliers in the Philippines with long-standing relationships with the studio.
3. How durable is rattan as a structural material?
Properly made rattan furniture and lighting is exceptionally durable. A well-constructed piece, kept out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from sustained moisture, will last decades. The material does not degrade in the way that MDF or composite materials do — it ages, which is different.
4. Can rattan be used outdoors?
Rattanology pieces are designed for interior use. Rattan is sensitive to sustained moisture and UV exposure. Covered outdoor spaces with low humidity are possible, but we do not recommend outdoor placement as standard.
5. How should I care for a rattan piece?
Dust regularly with a soft brush or dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a lightly damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid soaking, steam cleaning, or placing near direct heat sources. A light application of linseed oil once a year will maintain the material’s suppleness.
Design & Specification
6. Are dimensions listed in metric and imperial?
Yes. All product specifications list dimensions in both metric and imperial.
7. Are pieces available in custom sizes or finishes?
Custom commissions are considered on a case-by-case basis. Lead times and minimum order values apply. Contact the studio directly to discuss requirements.
8. What electrical fittings are used?
Floor lamps and table lamps use E27 standard base fittings. Smaller table lamps use E14. All pieces are supplied with UK plugs as standard; EU and US plug options are available at checkout. We recommend E27 LED 2700K warm white bulbs for all floor and table lamps.
9. Are pieces CE and UK CA certified?
Yes. All Rattanology lighting meets UK and EU electrical safety standards.
10. What is the edition size for limited run pieces?
Edition sizes vary by piece and are noted on the individual product page. Once an edition is closed, it is not reissued.
Purchasing & Trade
11. Do you offer trade pricing for interior designers and architects?
Yes. Rattanology operates a trade programme for verified interior designers, architects, and specifiers. Apply via the Trade Enquiries page. Trade accounts receive preferential pricing and access to lead time information.
12. What are typical lead times?
In-stock pieces dispatch within 3–5 working days. Made-to-order pieces have lead times of 6–10 weeks depending on the piece and current workshop capacity. Lead times are confirmed at point of order.
13. Do you ship to the USA?
Yes. Rattanology ships to the USA, UK, Europe, and beyond. US customers receive full tracking and standard international shipping rates apply. Contact the studio for freight quotes on large furniture pieces.
14. What is your returns policy?
Pieces may be returned within 14 days of receipt in original condition and packaging. Made-to-order and custom pieces are non-returnable. Full details are in the Refund Policy.
15. Can I see pieces before purchasing?
The studio does not operate a public showroom. Trade clients and collectors purchasing above a certain value may request a studio visit by appointment. Contact us directly to arrange.
