The Calyx rises from a coiled rattan base — two braided stems twisting upward, each finding its own height, its own angle. The drum shades sit at the crown, fabric-wrapped, casting warm and even light. One reaches higher than the other. This is not asymmetry as accident. It is asymmetry as intention.

The Making

The Calyx is handcrafted in the Philippines by master craftspeople working with natural rattan. Each stem is braided and shaped by hand, rising from a coiled base wound tight and finished without hurry. No two are identical.

Rattanology is a UK design studio based in Oxford, partnering with master craftspeople around the world to create premium rattan lighting and furniture with intention and integrity.
