About

A British design studio. A considered pursuit.

Rattanology was founded in Oxford in 2019 by Bill and Nory Mae Parry — a British antique dealer and a designer, united by one conviction: that the most enduring objects are made slowly, by hand, from materials that only improve with time.

Bill spent years reading objects — understanding provenance, patina, and the quiet authority of things built to last. His first collection, the Node, began not with a sketch but with a question: what happens when rattan is asked to hold tension rather than simply fill space.

Nory Mae brought the eye of a designer who trusts natural materials to carry their own intelligence. Her Shroom Collection began with an observation about light — the kind that makes a room feel inhabited rather than illuminated.

Together, they built Rattanology around a single discipline: patience.

The Materials

Rattan and bamboo are not chosen for trend. They are chosen because no manufactured material behaves the same way — in texture, in warmth, in the way they hold and release light. Brass appears only where structure demands it. Nothing is decorative for its own sake.

Every piece is woven by master craftspeople in the Philippines, whose knowledge of the material spans generations. The process cannot be accelerated. The result cannot be replicated by machine.

The Philosophy

We do not design for the moment. We design for the room you will still love in twenty years — the lamp that casts the same warm shadow, the chair that holds its form, the object that asks nothing of you except to be noticed.

Natural materials age. We consider this a feature, not a flaw.

The Studio

Rattanology is based in Oxford. Its making happens closer to the source — in Dueñas, Romblon, in the Philippines, where Bill and Nory Mae Parry established the design and build studio alongside the master craftspeople who bring each piece to life.

We work in small batches. We do not overproduce.
